The release of Fusion 8 marks the first time the visual effects software will be available on Mac. The implementation in Resolve 15 is a bit unstable, and is much heavier to run than the standalone app though. Now released from beta, Blackmagic Design’s Fusion 8 and Fusion 8 Studio are now shipping and available to download at this very moment. After effects can only use 1 GPU and barely does any multithreading as far as I'm aware, Fusion is much better at making use of all the power available in your system, and the studio version lets you set up a render network easily. Fusion is also, at least in the standalone version, much faster at rendering than After Effects. This means that the tools integrate better with each other, you only have to learn 1 user interface to use it. Most of the stuff you need comes in the box. Things like tracking, rotoscoping, multi-pass compositing, deep pixel and 3d, particle effects and your thypical VFX things is much more powerful in Fusion, and you aren't reliant on plugins like Element 3D, Trapcode or Mocha to accomplish that. It also doesn't have things like a framed text tool, which is nice for building Essential Graphics templates and the likes.įusion excels in compositing, like Nuke. ![]() Fusion doesn't have a shape node, so you will have to use solids(called a background in fusion) and masks to make your shapes. Whilst you can in theory do everything in AE in Fusion and vice versa, After Effects is much easier to use for things like text and 2D shape animation/motion graphics. Fusion is a very different tool than After Effects.
